In this sale an exquisite pair of antique 19th century (and not only style) french Sevres wall sconces for candles, gold plated and hand painted. The porcelains are not plates but parts that had been specialy made by the craftsman to create this pair of wonderfull sconces. This is really a nice work, particulary the paints that are very precise and delicate, wonderfull detail, and in the pure old french romantic movement 18th early 19th. Gilt floral flourishes highlight each plate. One has the back marked with Sevres mark– S 55. Datation is probably from second part of 19th century. Size: 29cm (11,5in) high x 26cm (10,2in) large. About condition: Porcelain plates–No chips. Painting is bright, vivid, even and lustrous. Ormolu has a handsome patina. Plates are very secure in the metal frames. Somme old repair on the back only on metal, two screws have been changed on the back and a little lip of a leaf is missing (really not easy to see when the sconces are on the wall). But one more time overall condition is very good. Please look at the pictures. About pictures some are in natural light and some not. This item comes from here, South-west of France. Nice vintage pair gold gilded cherubs sconce. They have a french look and feel to them. The gold gilding on both is scratched and chipped, otherwise they are undamaged. This beautiful pair of lamps are in the same style as the glass overlay lamps from the 1860’s and 1870’s. But dates to the first quarter of the 20th century. They are much larger than those earlier kerosene lamps. In fact, they are similar in size to some of the. The font and stem has a thin layer of cobalt blue glass over clear glass and a series of circles. Squares and star forms have been cut through the blue layer to form the bold pattern. To add to the grandeur of these antique lamps, the stepped base is constructed of two layers of marble. With a patterned brass break between them. The style and proportions of the stem compliment both the. Base and font perfectly. The delicate acid etched slant shades are original Victorian and older than the lamps. The lamps are working, one knob to turn the lamp on and off appears to be a replacement. Overall, these lamps are in excellent condition without any chips, cracks or damage of any kind. Both styles found within the design. I have found one very similar lamp that was. Found in a church and other Hollywood pieces that are very similar in style and design using the leaves, reeds, grapes and milk glass reflectors. I’ll let you be the judge of what style name you think they are or message me to discuss. Measures 34″ x 11″. Each lamp has 7 bulbs with a milk glass flower positioned near to reflect light. Each bulb has a small shade as shown beside the base in several pictures. I have 13 of the shades. That’s right, one got away. These are fabulous lamps and when restored to their former glory will be STUNNING. These lamps are quite old but I can not find any Dates or markings anywhere…. Note the old fabric electric cord bundled together on back of main post. Both lamps need rewiring, I have not plugged them in to test. Flowers are a bit loose and some of the reeds and leaves need to be adjusted back to original shape, still a striking beauty. These lamps need to be refurbished, the perfect project for winter.
