For sale is a Rare pair of Antique 1700s 18th century large size decorative Pewter Table Spoon. It features a shield and laurel pattern on the backside of the stem and a two faced design on the front. The stem boldly fanned out then turns upward in the Hanoverian flatware style. The “Hanoverian” is the most important British flatware pattern in the 18th century. In this pattern the stem widens gradually toward the curved terminal and then turns upward. This form was adopted because the spoon was lad on the table in the French manner (the bottom of the bowl downward). This pattern was manufactured in the British Isles from c. 1710 until the 1770s. Many of these British spoons were exported to America to serve the ever growing population of the new colonies. This particular spoon is a larger example measuring 8″ in length and a rather elongated bowl that measures 3″ by 1.5. No damage of any kind is detected. Age appropriate surface wears and imperfections are to be expected. Please check photos from all angles for details condition. Feel free to check out my other listings. Up for sale is a rare pair of antique 17th century pewter ladle spoons. They’re made of thick pewter and has acquired a lovely patina from age. Touch mark inside the bowl of the spoon as shown in photos. They measures 6 1/2 inches long by 2 3/8 inched wide. Overall in good condition for age, they have some splitting where the neck meets the bowl. They’re still sturdy spoons. 2 PC ANTIQUE STERLING SILVER SERVING FORK AND SPOON “LILY” PATTERN BY WHITING MANUFACTURING CO. Whiting Manufacturing Co traces its origin to the firm Tifft & Whiting formed in 1840 by Albert C. Tifft and William Dean Whiting. After the retirement of Tifft the firm changed to Whiting & Gooding (& Co) in 1853, Whiting Fessenden & Cowan (1858), Tifft Whiting & Co (1859, re-entering of Tifft), Whiting Cowan & Bowen (1864) until its forming as Whiting Manufacturing Co in 1866. The featured items represents a pair of antique sterling silver salad serving fork and knife by Whiting Manufacturing Company. The spoon is about 11 3/8″ long and the fork 11 5/8″. Total weight is approx. 9.4 ounces or 270 grams but I’ve used a home postal scale so the actual weight an vary slightly. The pieces come in the highly ornate “Lily” pattern, introduced in 1902, with exquisite sharp details on front and back. THe design feature shaped terminals with lily to top and undulating vines to terminal and handle, the heel and bowl both partially fluted. The back of the handles are marked with “Sterling” and the company logo made of “W” and a winged lion(griffin). Whiting introduced date marks in 1905 and the lack of those on the fork and the spoon suggests they were made prior to that. The items come in well-preserved condition for their age with no major damages but rather normal usage wear like some scuffs, marks and scratches.
