Large Antique Pair 19th C Staffordshire Pottery Dog Spaniels With Copper Luster. Color: Copper Luster and white. This is a charming pair of mid to late 19th century Victorian King Charles Spaniel dogs. Distinctive and rich copper luster coloring against a creamy white long-haired coat, yellow eyes, and black noses. Each dog is seated and has the much sought after open front paw. Lock-on neck collar with attached chain. Size (inches): Each measures approximately 9.25″ tall and about 6.75″ across the widest part of the base. Condition: Pre-owned, no chips, there is some age crazing to the glaze as to be expected with items of this age on both dogs. One dog (left side) has an age crack on the backside that runs from the right ear down to the bottom base. We will gladly send additional photos upon request. Large BO’NESS RECUMBANT LIONS Scottish Staffordshire Style. Mid- 20th Century 19th C. This rare and very collectible Pair of Large BO’NESS RECUMBANT LIONS. Are well modeled figures of a beautifully attired Lions on colorful plinths. Are Scottish Earthenware in the Staffordshire style, by C. McNay, Bridgeness Pottery, Bo’ness (Borrowstounness), Scotland. Have modeling, decorating, and glaze that are very well done in polychrome with colors of brown, tan, black, and gold accents. Have deep set brown paperweight glass eyes. Are glazed on the underside with a hole in the center, the rimfoot is unglazed. Tall x 13.0 In. Wide x 5.5 In. The estimated date is Mid 20. This Pair of Large BO’NESS RECUMBANT LIONS are in very good condition- Lion #1 has a surface glaze loss chip on the rear base, and a potting flaw from the original making on the head. Otherwise, condition status includes minimal normal wear and rubbing, typical crazing, minor glaze losses, firing flaws, and fretting. Overall, this work is sound, having no other chips, cracks, or major defects, and having had no apparent repairs or restorations. It is noted that old majolica is not inherently “perfect” – pieces were still mold formed in this era and as such have marks like little dents in the pottery which are glazed over. This is not damage- this is part of the history of old pottery and how it was made. Please see all photos which are a part of this description.
